West Buttress Route

Purpose: To share the love and truth of Christ with other climbers on the mountain; to promote encounters with the Divine; and to disciple one another and grow deeper in our faith, understanding, and ability to minister. Secondary objectives include promoting and modeling the finest environmental stewardship practices, encouraging and serving Talkeetna Community Church, and having an opportunity to stand on the highest point of North America (weather permitting).

Date: May 11, 2007 (arrive in Anchorage) to June 4 (estimated latest departure from Anchorage).

Location: West Buttress Route on Denali, town of Talkeetna, and City of Anchorage.

Prerequisites: Ability to share the Gospel and your testimony of life in Christ. You must have a servant's heart, extended cold-weather winter camping experience, solid ability to self-arrest, and experience in glacier travel and crevasse rescue techniques.

Estimated cost: $1,800 to $2,400 per person, excluding airfare to and from Anchorage, personal gear or insurance. NOTE: Final costs depend on the number of participants, available group gear, and other factors. Cost includes park entrance and special use mountaineering fees, lodging in Anchorage and Talkeetna, ground transportation from Anchorage to Talkeetna, air transportation from Talkeetna to the Kahiltna Glacier Base Camp on Denali, all food and fuel while on the mountain, contribution toward group gear, satellite phone minutes, and expedition T-shirt, photo CD, and DVD. We will assess the potential for any needed group gear after learning what individual team members can contribute.

To apply: Send your full name and mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, and a $500 deposit check (payable to Climbing For Christ, Inc.) to Climbing For Christ, P.O. Box 16290, Rochester, NY 14616-0290.

After your deposit is received you will be contacted for a phone interview. After the interview a package of written information will be sent to you, including a list of personal and needed group gear, National Park Service registration form, Climbing For Christ forms, National Park Service booklet: Mountaineering in Denali National Park and Preserve, a draft itinerary, training tips, payment schedule, and other information. Your deposit is non-refundable. NOTE: this is not a guided climb. All participants are expected to contribute to the mission objectives and the daily chores of the expedition.
