Date: Feb. 20-March 5, 2008.
Team: This trip is no longer open to applicants. Sorry. Team members: Gary Fallesen, Rochester, N.Y.; Jim Doenges, Littleton, Colo.; Miguel Samper, Rochester, N.Y.
Cost: Estimated at $2,500, excluding airfare. The costs includes four nights hotel in Moshi and Marangu, Tanzania; eight days of climbing one of the Seven Summits via the Rongai Route (NEW ROUTE!); and ground transportation in Tanzania. Not included are extra meals before and after the climb (about $60 U.S.), tips for guides and porters (about $200 U.S.), visa ($50 or $100 U.S.), and incidentals. U.S. members will fly together from New York City to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Roundtrip airfare will cost between $1,600 and $2,000. You will need to arrange your own transportation to and from New York City before and after the expedition.
Purpose: To continue to explore how God would have us serve the people around Kilimanjaro and to identify a full-time missionary from Climbing For Christ who will be called to serve for a minimum of two years in Marangu and around the slopes of Kili. We will visit the church and school in Marangu before the climb and work with missionaries in Moshi after the climb. We are partnering with Pack, Paddle, Ski adventure travel company of South Lima, N.Y. for a “Journeys of Inspiration” cancer climb.
