United States

Think small

God has given us a vision of changing Climbing For Christ's current “chapter” format into a small-group ministry in the United States. We have U.S. chapters in Western New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, two Colorado locations, Northern California, and Washington state. Essentially, our “chapter” gatherings turn out to be small-group get-togethers so this seems like a logical — if not divine — step.

The emphasis for our small groups will be (in the following order):

  • Fellowship
  • Prayer
  • Bible study
  • Outreach
  • Climbing

The goal of chapters always has been to equip the saints and provide fellowship. We based the local chapter on Ecclesiastes 4:12 —“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” The local chapter was and is intended to develop a sense of community for Climbing For Christ members who are, by nature, separated by miles and walks of life. We may have different types of jobs and backgrounds, but we are unified in the body of Christ.

Those miles separating us often keep us from gathering. For instance, when a Western New York Chapter event is held Rochester, N.Y., a member who is in Buffalo is unlikely to travel 1¼ hours to attend. In most cases, a person won’t drive 30-to-45 minutes across the city.

In the small-group format, members who are located near one another can meet, share, pray, study, testify, and climb together. They can also recruit new Climbing For Christ members to grow a small group.

This does not mean events will no longer be held. Some upcoming events are listed below. But our emphasis will be on growing the body of Climbing For Christ through small groups. So “think small.” And, as a result, we'll be able to do more globally.

Are you interested in leading one of these small groups? E-mail gfallesen@ClimbingForChrist.org.

Prayer Peaks Day

From Colorado, where Prayer Peaks Day began, to Australia, where it expanded. From 14,000-foot mountaintops in the Rockies to 4,000-foot peaks in your backyard. From wherever a Climbing For Christ member calls “home,” there is a call to pray. The 15th annual Prayer Peaks Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2012.

The Word

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV), the reason behind organizing chapters. The fellowship of believers adds up to encouragement and growth.
