Dangerous Countries index
Posted: 08 Jun 2004 01:46 PM
Outside magazine's March 2003 issue featured a "Danger Index."

Countries considered "Extremely Dangerous" included:
-- Afghanistan (for trekking in the Hindu Kush);
-- Colombia (for the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Mountains);
-- Democratic Republic of Congo (for Ruwenzori Mountains, including 16,763-foot Mount Stanley -- Africa's third-highest peak);
-- Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

To get the latest updates, check U.S. State Department advisories about unstable regions, such as Kyrgyzstan and Nepal, at www.state.gov.
